The Project

When an Illinois-based family decided it was time to trade their Midwest digs for the rolling hills of Brentwood, Tennessee, they turned to Chicago-area designer Amy Storm to help with the most essential step of the moving process: crafting their dream home. Storm, whose eponymous firm had designed the client’s previous home a decade earlier, already knew the family’s design preferences.

“The client wanted assistance in every part of the process, from influencing the exterior to designing and furnishing every room.” Amy Storm

“There was a learned understanding of their design goals and an established trust,” Storm says. “They may have been entering new territory, but their core vision was the same — a spacious oasis to gather family and friends, and foster community.”

The Process

The client also tapped the architect of their Illinois home, G.O. Architectural Design, for a design that would mesh well in the community and a layout that allowed for siblings, building on either side of them, to share access to the home’s amenities. The 13,000-square-foot home atop 30 sprawling acres is an entertaining mecca, weaving a modern Nashville aesthetic with gentle inspiration from the client’s Midwest roots.

The property boasts a large pool beside the 80-foot-long covered porch, a cold plunge and sauna, a fire pit, and — most notably — a 10,000-square-foot barn outfitted with a full basketball court, golf simulator, workout space and spa bath.

The Details

At the center of it all is the kitchen, appointed with Artistic Tile’s Xanadu Falls Calacatta Gold Polished backsplash, Calia Stone countertops, and Carpet Den Interiors flooring — a Midwestern warmth translated into Tennessee stone.
